Thank you for your interest in joining us in Mexico. Together, we will build another much‑needed home for a family currently living in very poor housing conditions in the colonias of Tijuana.
A team of 15 volunteers will spend three days constructing a safe, secure home for the family replacing their current shelter which provides poor security and weather protection and can often consist of a mud floor, old pieces of ply and tarpaulin. Alongside the build, volunteers will also take part in meaningful community outreach activities such as delivering personal care packs to a local prison, feeding the homeless, or supporting a nearby school.
This trip offers a powerful opportunity to make a lasting impact and stand alongside a family as they move from unsafe shelter into a dignified home.

Itinerary
Meet the team at San Diego airport before we cross the border to head to our accomodation at Rosarito Beach. The team will spend 3 days building a family a new home, plus the option of other community outreach programmes such as delivering care packages to a local prison, feeding the homeless or visiting a local project that educates young Mexican children.
Trip Dates
Depart Saturday 25thSeptember 2027 and finishes Saturday 2nd of October 2027. Participants are free to arrive earlier or stay on later at own arrangements.

Team Size
Approximately 12-15. Volunteer Build will provide a host and local foremen to supervise the building project.
Accommodation
Share Twin in 2 bedroom, 2-bathroom apartments (4 to an apartment). Single supplement applies if you require a single room.
Catering
Cost includes lunches, morning and afternoon tea and drinking water on building days
Transport
Hired vehicles.
Building Contribution
NZD $1,500 per person donation towards the cost of building materials (sourced locally). A tax receipt will be issued for this donation. NZ tax residents may qualify for a tax credit for this donation.
Vaccinations
A Tetanus vaccination is compulsory. You will need to consult your doctor, however common vaccinations required are Tetanus, Diphtheria, MMR, Hepatitis A & B, chicken pox, typhoid, flu vaccination. Remember it’s not just you who needs protection – it’s the Mexican kids and families you interact with as well.
Visas
Entrance to the US is on the visa waiver program. Prior to departure you will need to apply online for an ESTA (electronic authorization to travel to the US cost approximarly USD $40. We will stop at the US/Mexican border for you to obtain your Mexican tourist permit (approximatly USD $54). Tourist permit is free for stays under 7 days. You will need 6 months validity on your passport after you leave Mexico.
Travel Insurance
Compulsory and must include coverage for manual labour (building) and medical evacuation and cancellation costs. Volunteer Build offers a policy through Covermore, and a personalized quote will be provided after signing up. Premium depends on age, cancellation coverage and any pre-existing conditions.
Trip Guardians
If you are under 18 years old, you will need to travel with a trip guardian who is 18 years or older. Signed parental consent documentation will be required to travel.
